an artist who cannot speak english is no artist
Jakup Ferri’s videos draw from the artist’s desire to participate in the systems of globalized art production—the biennials, fairs, and mega-exhibitions—and their formalized and standardized channels of communication. By narrating his resume on-screen, videotaping a studio visit, and luring potential clients and curators in heartbreakingly poor English, he points to the conditions which regulate success and serve as filters to what is believed to be a global, democratic, and diverse international art world.
